 Stefano (Jack)
and Andrea (Cespu)were born in this
right order in Aosta, April 1976. Since they were children
they immediately shown their passion for
travelling.
Side by side, between the
age of 5 and 14, they spent together their Summer holidays in
the Camp of Pinarella di Cervia (Ravenna), and, during the
next years with their family, making short vacations around
Italy. Particularly in Liguria, Sardegna and Calabria (their
home land).
Always together, they
faced the scholastic’s experience, from the nursery school
until the higher school, when, for the first time, they
decided unwillingly to part one from each other. At first this
decision made them sad, but in a second time this choice
became the right one.
They were
teenagers and the “Vespa’s little twins” looked so much the
same that only a few people were able to distinguish them.
That’s why their friendships began to multiply year after
year.
Thanks to the
first money saved with some little Summer’s job, they started
to think how to extend their travel experience out of the
“Boot”.
The first one, in the big
Europe, saw the unexpected cooperation of destiny that decided
to join them again in the year of the diploma, even if they
were attending two different schools. Thanks to a vacation in
Barcelona, in their hearts started to grow a big love for
Spain!
After the diploma they spent
some months making short jobs and waiting for the imminent
military service. At the begin they went in different cities,
far away one from each other, but destiny decided to make them
meet again. They spent some months in the same barracks in Torino, fortunately, having the
chance to travel a lot in North Italy, keeping burning the
passion they had in common.
Paid the
due with the State, they came back home and found a job that
allowed them to save money to explore new places; that time,
the goal was to go out ofEurope!
Summer 2000. Our twins coming back
for the umpteenth travel felt the need to do something more
great. They realized that maybe there was the chance to join
their passion for travels with another great love they had for
a timeless status symbol: the Vespa motorbike! A passion
dragged on for years.
Since they were
very young, they usually spent time watching older boys
meeting in the streets: riders with 80s racing motorbikes with
eccentric stickers, big radios, very striking. Their eyes were
shining for those symbols of liberty, dreaming to be, one day,
over unknown roads, still together, somewhere, riding in the
world.
Years
go by, the passion still remains, but we have to wait until
the end of 90s when the two brothers were able to buy two
Vespa (a 1984’s ets 125 for Jack and a 1983’s
px 125 for Cespu). People, who really know
them, know that the gesture of Jack (Stefano)
and Cespu (Andrea) is not the attempt to
follow the fashion. To be “Vespa” is a way to
exist, to breath in a different dimension that sees them
together even if they’re apart.
It’s
not about songs or movies where you can find yourself, it’s a
simple desire to ride kilometers and always find new
destinations far away. To leave somebody and meet him again
between one stop and another one on travels always
longer.
The difference between the
twins is not so easy to see, and this made them to see the
world in a different way, a world that they ride day after
day.
Cespu subscribed the
Aosta’s Vespa Club, and meeting after
meeting, started to know inside out the roads of his Region
and all the places around, but Jack had in his mind something
different, for engagement and continuity. So he decided to put
himself to the test to really understand if the project he had
inside could become
true!
It was the summer of 2003 and
Cespu came back from his vacation to the Lake
of Garda. Jack was riding his Vespa covering
more than 2.000 km in twelve days, driving the main roads in
the North Italy, from Genova to Como, going through Viareggio,
Bologna, Gabbice, Iesolo and Verona. He spent twelve days
alone and came back to his brother… smiling. There was one
more thing he had to do before to confess him his idea. He
needed a really proof of character to realize what he had in
his mind.
They went together beyond
the near France’s border, but it was not still enough. It was
difficult to challenge themselves with the
few time they had. They felt the weight of their jobs on their
lives. Suddenly appeared the only possibly solutions. They
decided to take part in the National Vespa’s meeting in
Treviso. They rode for almost 1.000 km, from West to East
Italy, during two days of travel. The emotion exploded in their hearts when
they were on the stage, with others 600 “Vespisti” and our
twins received the price for the “Vespisti coming from more
far away” a couple of Vespisti very particular, differently
unique!
The same night was the right
moment to spill the beans. It was 2004 and
Jack took his brother aside and told him:
“Cespu... this is the moment to really put ourselves to
the test”.
The idea was to ride all over
the Australian’s coasts, but not together, a solo trip. They
would leave together form Adelaide, Jack to West direction,
Cespu East way, and finally they would meet again after some
months in the North of the Continent to celebrate their 30th
birthday together.
There will
be another passion with them in this great adventure, the
photography. They will document every single day, to tell the
same days of travel, lived without meet each other. A detailed
and precise collection. A diary up-to-date on their website.
The only place where to exchange images and telling, and get
information to face the next destinations to reach. To meet
friends of friends never seen before in the way that happens.
When they will meet again in the North, they will cross
together the center of Australia, across the GreatDesert to
come back to the city that saw them leave younger than a
year. | |
